Are you ready to enter The Anomaly? That’s the big threat facing the crew of Star Trek: Discovery, as mentioned several times in the brand-new Season 4 trailer that just debuted at New York Comic Con. But what is The Anomaly? And do we need to capitalize it like that? Read on, to find out!

In the two minute long look at the upcoming season, we find Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) grappling with the weight of command, now that she’s been made captain of the ship in the Season 3 finale. Burnham, as anyone who watches Discovery knows, is not the sort of person who sits in a chair and barks orders; she gets things done.

But as one of the Federation’s leaders tells her, “leadership is about balance. Your acts of bravery are huge swings of the pendulum. And there is a very fine line between a pendulum and a wrecking ball.”

So will Burnham embrace nuance in the face of an enormous anomaly that is destroying billions of lives and whole galaxies? Uh, nope. Instead, Burnham is clearly steering her crew into the anomaly, despite the warning that it could potentially destroy the ship. “We’re totally going to ignore that warning, aren’t we?” asks a terrified Tilly (Mary Wiseman).

“Mmm-hmm,” answers Burnham.

The rest of the trailer is action packed, featuring huge fights, the crew literally being thrown in the air on the bridge, and potentially that warning coming true with a completely wrecked Discovery. But what is The Anomaly? And what does entering The Anomaly mean for the crew?

We’ll have to wait until the series premieres on Paramount+ on November 18 to find out. But in the meantime, you can watch the trailer above — and check out some new teaser art below. And you know what? Let’s capitalize The Anomaly, seems cooler that way.

Star Trek: Discovery also stars Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp, Wilson Cruz, David Ajala, Blu del Barrio and recurring guest star Ian Alexander.
