Netflix’s Tiger King may be the runaway hit of the spring, but Joel McHale‘s aftershow isn’t getting the same love from fans. On Sunday, Netflix released Tiger King and I, a new episode that features McHale interviewing docuseries stars Jeff Lowe, John Finlay, and more. While some fans were excited about the aftershow, many tore into McHale for his interview style and the low quality of the at-home episode. As one fan put it, “Honestly would rather have waited a year for a better episode than this rush job trash.”

Last week, Netflix announced that Community alum Joel McHale would be hosting a special-edition aftershow to capitalize on the world’s Tiger King mania. “I talk to a lot of people involved in the project — Jeff and Lauren Lowe, Saff, Erik Cowie, John Finlay, John Reinke, and Rick Kirkham — to see what’s happened in their lives since the release of the series,” he said in the initial announcement. “It’s eye opening and, hopefully, funny.”

McHale and Netflix may have lived up to the first part of that statement — he did, indeed, interview multiple Tiger King stars, with the exception of Joe Exotic — many viewers felt that the aftershow was anything but funny. While the special gave viewers a few more nuggets of Tiger King info (did you know that Kirkham thinks Exotic is afraid of big cats?), Twitter users agreed that McHale came off as “condescending” and “a bit of a dick.”

“Joel McHale was the absolute worst person to host the new Tiger King episode,” wrote one user. “It’s one of the cheapest pieces of television I’ve seen in a long time,” wrote another of the aftershow. “The villain of Tiger King‘s new episode is Joel McHale,” tweeted another. Have you guys never seen The Soup?
