Danish Network Launches Children’s Show About a Man with a Giant Penis

In completely bizarre news, Danish network DR has launched a new children’s series about a man with a penis so enormous, he can barely control it. The new series, John Dillermand, follows a man who puts his record-setting penis to good use in rescue operations, money-making schemes, and cooking demonstrations in order to teach kids the importance of overcoming hardship and celebrating diverse bodies. Because, you know, apparently watching a TV show about a man with a giant schlong is the best way to get those lessons across.

As The Guardian reports, the DR’s new series has provoked quite a bit of debate. John Dillermand isn’t exactly an exercise in subtlety — “diller” means “penis” in Danish, and “Dillermand” translates to “penis-man” — and many parents and academics are worried that it projects a negative message, particularly in the wake of the #MeToo movement. “It’s perpetuating the standard idea of a patriarchal society and normalizing ‘locker room culture’ … that’s been used to excuse a lot of bad behavior from men,” Christian Groes, a gender researcher, told The Guardian. “It’s meant to be funny – so it’s seen as harmless. But it’s not. And we’re teaching this to our kids.”

However, the network has disputed this characterization of its animated series. In a statement provided to Danish outlet Ekstra Bladet (and translated into English), a network executive insisted that John Dillerman is not “harmful in any way.” They added, “Our content is based on a long tradition of being true to the target group. With the series, we acknowledge the budding curiosity about the body and genitals, and also the embarrassing and funny thing about the body — it is something that is exciting for the exact age group that Ramasjang [DR’s network targeted to children aged 7-10] addresses.”

John Dillermand is a fictional and humorous universe where we want to tell a funny story that captures the kids,” the statement continued. “It is an animated series where humor, exaggeration and magic are at the center, which is something that children know and can easily decode.”

Controversy or not, John Dillermand is worth checking out. The series is entirely in Danish (subtitles are not available in English), but even without the dialogue, it’s pretty funny watching John knock over mailmen, fly balloons, and cook a hot dog with his giant penis. As we all know, penis humor is universal.

John Dillerman is available to stream for free on the DR website. Each episode is only 5 minutes long, so you have no excuse not to check it out.
