Joy Behar is fairly busy co-hosting The View every day, but on Tuesday morning, the outspoken panelist revealed that she has another hobby: writing. During an interview with Fifty Shades of Grey author E.L. James, Behar declared that she’s writing an erotic “comedy” that features two characters doing “an S&M thing.” Behar’s bizarre revelation shocked her co-hosts, but she soldiered on, explaining that unlike in Fifty Shades, “the man is getting hit” in her mysterious project. “In my world, the man is the one who’s submissive,” she teased.

Before Behar took over, The View‘s interview with James went relatively smoothly. The author teased her new book, The Mister, which she described as a love story between “an aristocrat” and his Albanian maid. James explained that she enjoys stories about “a woman disarming a man,” which prompted Behar to say, “Even if he has the whip?” James was ready to play ball. “They can change up places. What appeals to you, Joy?” she asked.

Dear reader, she should not have asked. “I actually am writing something, and it’s the opposite. Where the man is getting hit,” explained Behar. “It’s sort of an S&M thing they’re doing.” That sent The View‘s co-hosts into a fit of laughter, with Meghan McCain joking, “And that man is Trump!” Added Abby Huntsman from off-screen, “In handcuffs!”

But Behar didn’t let her co-hosts’ jokes deter her from pitching the project. “It’s a playful thing like yours. It’s not violent. It’s a comedy,” she said. “But in my world, the man is the one who’s submissive.” Behar’s steamy pitch pleased the audience, who whooped from their seats. “I think you’ll find there are a lot of submissive men out there,” added James after the audience calmed down.

I wish I could say that Behar reined things in after that, but alas, she did not. The longtime View co-host later noted that The Mister‘s plot is reminiscent of another scandal. “On the other hand, it reminds me of Arnold Schwarzenegger and his housekeeper,” said Behar, sending the panel into laughs once again. “I’ll tell you about that later,” she promised James.

If Behar is really writing an S&M comedy, let’s hope it’s a fictional novel and not a memoir. The last thing the world needs is the Joy Behar Kamasutra.
