Afternoon Delight: ‘12 Beers’ Hilariously Lets A Dozen Cold Ones Decide The Fate Of A Couple’s Relationship

What better way to prepare for the fast-approaching weekend than by indulging in the some of the Internet’s most well-done web content? Take advantage of your lunch break and treat yourself to Afternoon Delight, Decider’s carefully curated picks of the best short-form content available on the world wide web. This week we’re spotlighting 12 Beers, a new web series that leaves the fate of a couple’s relationship in the hands of twelve brews.

Would you turn the future of your relationship over to alcohol? This duo does. Once a year, longtime couple Danny and Sarah sit down, crack open twenty-four cold ones, and let it aaaaalll out. The couple uses their intoxication to decide whether or not to renew their lease and keep their relationship going, and the results are uproarious. The pilot episode doesn’t waste any time as the couple holds nothing back with each other – as soon as they clink beer cans, Danny can’t help but word vomit: “the way you sneeze makes me wanna pull my eyeballs out of my head.” Sarah’s incredulous reaction says it all, and Danny doubles back to remember the general rules of their 12 beers ritual. They start with complaints about living together, then try to end on a high note. Sarah reminds him to start complaints with “I love living with you, but…” so that they don’t end up the same predicament they did last year (drunkenly throwing dramatic insults from the bathtub).

Written and directed by funnyman Mike Camerlengo, the series stars Camerlengo and Emily Kron as the long-term couple, and their chemistry and comedic timing makes for the perfect dysfunctional duo. The delivery of their hilarious one-liners flows effortlessly, and the references at play (“Oh, I’m sorry my karaoke song embarrasses you, but Natalie Merchant’s the only person who understands me!”) give the series a unique flavor that’s bound to please even the most reluctant of web series watchers. It’s hard to strike these kinds of comedic chords without coming off as contrived, but Camerlengo and Kron’s fresh, funny style and willingness to be absolutely wacky with one another really seals the deal.

There’s currently only one episode to stream, but stay tuned for future installments of this intoxicated exploration of a relationship by following Camerlengo on Twitter.
