Final Shots: Netflix’s ‘Amanda Knox’ Filmmakers Refer To Her As ‘Accidental Celebrity’

In preparation for the release of Netflix’s forthcoming Amanda Knox documentary, the filmmakers spoke to TODAY about the film’s central subject and how she became an “accidental celebrity.” The Netflix original film will premiere globally via the platform this Friday, September 30th.

Speaking on Knox’s familiarity with the case, director Rod Blackhurst (Here Alone) stated that “[Knox] has this kind of bird’s eye perspective on these years, looking back on it, in a way that is very unexpected…” Co-director Brian McGinn (Chef’s Table) added that they “kind of keyed on this idea of accidental celebrity’ with the film, which will feature never-before-seen footage and interviews exploring the brutal killing of Meredith Kercher, for which Knox was twice convicted and acquitted by Italian courts.

Hamilton actor Anthony Ramos has been cast in Spike Lee’s forthcoming 10-episode Netflix original series, She’s Gotta Have It. Ramos will play one of Nora Darling’s three lovers, Da Original B-Boy Sneakerhead: Mars Blackmon, in the modern revival of the Brooklyn-based director’s groundbreaking 1986 indie film of the same name. Amazon has announced a brand new SVOD original kids series titled Bookaboo, which is set for release via Prime Video on October 28th. According to a press release, the preschool-level series features Paula Abdul, Michael Sheen, and Molly Parker among others; combining puppetry, live action and CGI animation to help families to engage in reading.

Hulu has posted an eery second teaser dubbed “Survival” for its forthcoming original pilot, Freakish, all 10 episodes of which will be available on October 10th. The brand new horror series from DreamWorks’ AwesomenessTV is set in a typical cliche small-town high school:
