This Is The Best Perfume Commercial You’ll Ever See

Zoom in on a girl at a fancy event in an even fancier ballroom. That seems like a formulaic start to a perfume ad if I’ve ever heard one. But don’t be fooled, you’re about to experience the simultaneously greatest and weirdest four minutes of your life.

With Spike Jonze, known for masterful oddities such as Her and Being John Malkovich, at the helm as the director this comes as no surprise. Margaret Qualley, an actress known for her work in The Leftovers and The Nice Guys, brings Jonze’s vision to life with a series of dance moves that can only be described as eclectic and interesting. This vision is not just focused on a perfume, but rather a world, Kenzo World to be exact.

As Qualley exits the ballroom she stands demurely in an elegant hallway for all of ten seconds before all hell breaks loose backed by a high energy original track by Sam Spiegel and Ape Drums and featuring Assassin. At first it starts with weird facial twitches, continues with body spasms, and really gets started with animalistic looking kicks as she works her way down the hall. There’s dancing with herself in front of a mirror, licking a statue, and horror movie-esque glares to camera.

Qualley seems to suddenly become a super hero (villain?) when she takes down a guy and fires off lasers with her hands. Next comes exorcism like dancing where Qualley seems to have lost total control of her body. This is all interrupted by a brief interlude of ballet on a beautiful stage, but it’s quickly back to the excitement with a trip outside where Qualley jumps through a huge eye made of flowers and begins beating her chest a la King Kong.

Seriously, it’s so weird and so great. Never has a perfume ad been so entertaining.
