As part of Hollywood’s decades in the making reckoning with a culture of sexual harassment that has permeated every facet of the industry, a number of powerful men have been ousted from their shows. Kevin Spacey was let go from House of CardsMatt Lauer was fired from Today, and Danny Masterson was just released from The Ranch. Up until today you would have also included Jeffrey Tambor on that list, as it seemed fairly certain that his relationship with the series Transparent was over. Apparently that’s not exactly true.

As part of The New York Times‘ lengthy profile of the award-winning Amazon original series Transparent and the sexual harassment allegations that have rocked a working environment that was crafted by its producers to be inclusive and nurturing, it is revealed that Tambor hasn’t actually quit just yet. According to the Times, a representative for Tambor informed them that the actor “had no plans to quit.”

That’s quite a shocker considering just how definite his statement on the allegations read when it was issued last month: “I’ve already made clear my deep regret if any action of mine was ever misinterpreted by anyone as being aggressive, but the idea that I would deliberately harass anyone is simply and utterly untrue,” wrote Tambor. “Given the politicized atmosphere that seems to have afflicted our set, I don’t see how I can return to Transparent.”

Now looking back, you can parse Tambor’s words and see the wiggle room that was presumably left in that statement. He didn’t “see” how he could return to the set, but he didn’t say he wouldn’t return to the set.

In early November, Tambor’s former assistant Van Barnes came forward with a claim that the actor had acted inappropriately towards her. Just over a week later, Transparent actress Trace Lysette came forward and alleged that Tambor made lewd comments to her and physically pressed himself against her during production. The Times article lists a third woman, a makeup artist named Tamara Delbridge, who says Tambor forcibly kissed her in 2001 on the set of Never Again.

Transparent is currently on hiatus as it figures out what to do either with or without Tambor.
