You Can Stream The Oscar-Nominated Short Films On Vimeo

Often forgotten in the frenzied Oscars race are the short films, which include live action narrative, documentary, and animated. These tiny films, featuring Oscar-worthy talent, have grand messages that few see or discuss as frequently as the blockbusters that dominate awards season. This year, the Academy has nominated shorts from around the world, including the United Kingdom, France, China, Israel, Ireland and more. Now, thanks to Vimeo and a tip from Dana Stevens at Slate, you can download all of them before Oscar night on Sunday, February 22nd.

Vimeo isn’t a one-stop shop, however; both the live action and animation categories can be purchased in a bundle for $7.99, which includes a year of unlimited streaming. Check out the trailer for the live action shorts below.

Here at Decider, we’re torn between rooting for the overwhelmingly emotional The Phone Call, starring Blue Jasmine‘s Sally Hawkins and the much more upbeat, ridiculously adorable Boogaloo and Graham, featuring two brothers and their pet chickens.

The Phone Call follows a day in the life of an emergency hotline teller (played by Sally Hawkins) as she listens to a man who has intentionally taken too many sleeping pills and simply wants company before laying down for the eternal nap. Hawkins, who’s in nearly every scene of the 20-minute film, delivers a riveting and emotionally tasking performance that has you reaching for the tissues.

On the opposite end of the spectrum is Boogaloo and Graham: a story of two young brothers growing up amidst war in Ireland, who couldn’t care less about the soldiers marching outside their fence because they’ve got chickens to tend to. Featuring a boppin’ Motown soundtrack and stunning cinematography, Boogaloo and Graham is a must-watch before Oscar night. Check out the trailer and don’t forget to tune in to the Oscars on Sunday, February 22nd at 8 p.m.
