Netflix Wants To Hook Up With Your Facebook Friends

Netflix announced that they are introducing a new social recommendation feature. So, next time you watch a television show or movie on Netflix that you think a specific friend will like, Netflix will offer you an easy way to directly send that recommendation to those lucky chosen few (or many).

According to the informative video above, once you finish watching something, you’ll have the option to click on a Facebook-blue colored button labeled “Find Friends.” Once Netflix is synched to your Facebook feed, you can choose whom you want to send the recommendation to.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. What if your friends don’t want to synch their Facebook accounts to Netflix? Well, if that’s the case, Netflix will send your friend a private message. They promise (in the cute video) to never post to your friends’ Facebook feeds.

The new Netflix feature obviously makes sense. I mean, as soon as I finish watching an obscure documentary on Richard III, I know that there are a few people I’m friends with who would love to know more about the medieval monarch, but the majority of my feed doesn’t care about old dead British people.  So, it would be nice to be able to send a custom message to a select few. That said, it could also get really annoying really fast if your aunt keeps sending you recommendations for shows you never want to watch. (No, I don’t want to watch Emily Owens, MD and I don’t know what my mom is doing for Christmas, yet! Sheesh!)

It will definitely be interesting to see how people wind up using the tool. Will it make the Netflix experience all the more fun or will it be an irksome add-on? What do you think?
