We like The West Wing a LOT around these parts, and the worse that real-life politics gets, the more nostalgic we get for the simplicity (or at least the intense watchability) of the Bartlet White House. Which is why we nearly spit out our Schweppes Bitter Lemon when we saw that Allison Janney stepped up to the podium in character as C.J. Cregg to deliver today’s White House press briefing.

Guys, WHAT? Further blurring the lines between reality and fiction, Janney/C.J. said she was there because “Josh” had a root canal procedure today. Josh being White House press secretary Josh Earnest, but we all know the most important Josh ever to strut down the halls of power in Washington was Josh Lyman. Who, of course, once took over a press briefing for C.J. when she was having a root canal. It did not go well.
Kudos to the Obama White House for having a sense of humor on a Friday afternoon and for knowing exactly what this campaign-exhausted populace really needed: C.J. Cregg back behind the podium where she belongs.
