The classic sci-fi series The X-Files, starring Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny, is staying put on the streaming giant, despite the circulating rumors online that all nine seasons will be disappearing from Netflix at the end of the month. Fans of the supernatural adventures of Dana Scully and Fox Mulder probably freaked when they saw that expiring date lurking next to the title in their queue — or, rather, Silicon Valley star and The X-Files Files host Kumail Najiani‘s tweet earlier this week.
But here’s the thing: The X-Files isn’t going anywhere, and Netflix confirmed as much with us. The truth is, in fact, still out there.
Every month, every week, and every day, Netflix rotates movies and shows off and back on to the service without your knowing because, behind the homepage, hundreds if not thousands of contract negotiations are happening to keep titles on the service. Sometimes crossing the Ts and dotting the Is takes a little longer than usual, which is why it looks like your favorite series might be saying buh-bye. Netflix gives us the Official List of Expiring Titles every month so you know exactly which shows you need to binge and what movies to carve out some time for. But for now, all you X-Files fans have something to smile about.
